Now 22 or so records in, John Hiatt is the heralded songwriter’s songwriter who has endured being a songwriter’s songwriter. And life as the music world’s “next big thing” could be an enormous challenge. That “blank piece of paper” beckons out in front of your creative juices. Yet it seems to have become a cloak he has learned to wear well.
