There are questions I’m still not wise enough to answer, just wise enough to no longer ask.” ...

It’s funny what your kids will latch onto. It was a deathly hot day and Maddy was little enough to still be in a car seat. So we had the windows wide open and were out for an errand. I had a cassette tape on of the new John Prine record on which this song appears.. And when “Lake Marie” came on it grabbed her attention. And it grabbed me to. And the errand got longer because we both needed to keep listening to it, I think five more times or so. Especially the part in the song, where John asks “You know what blood looks like in a black and white video? Shadows, Shadows!”. Madster made me reverse the cassette tape so she could keep shouting along with the Shadows part. And we got in a spell over it so much so that we didn’t want to drive home. And so deep in both our hearts the song keeps playing. Such are the gifts of having a child like Maddy.. She is a constant reminder of our precious life force. Many happy returns of this day.
