The Bop Shop 1.4.23 - Carla Bley

the short story of “Ida Lupino” by Carla Bley, 1964

Ms. Bley

Carla Bley, pianist, composer and band leader was enamored early in her career by the alluring Anglo-American actress Ida Lupino who established a melcancholy and dreamy persona in her diverse cinema roles. She also penetrated the male dominated structure of American filmaking as evidenced by her off-beat noir picture “The Hitch-hiker” in 1955. Bley’s then husband Paul broke the tune on the jazz landscape but Carla issued her take on it in with her 1977 lp “Dinner Music.” (not available online) So did those wily cats NRBQ on their debut in 1969.
