Mr. Lowe is part of a legion of British singer songwriters who have left exquisite portraits of its history. They forged this material as part of the major revival of its folk traditions lurking below the surface, unveiling lost topical themes and songs. Jack Common was a legendary writer/activist who tried to address the plight of the working public. He parged together a writing career without much notoriety. But parge he did with a dogged persistnece and encouraged by the likes of George Orwell. Mr. Lowe has subsisted somewhat similarly on the edges of modern folk, crafting full-throated tales such as this.
