Oscar Petersen “Round Midnight”
I dug this one out of the old Trick Bag of my favorite jazz performances of all time - bar noneI'm sure you've hear it before, but maybe not too recently. Oscar was a musical genius. I don't use the term frequently, but here it fits, all day long. The superlative nature of the group, the selections for this concert, the levity and seeming aplomb driving these many tunes, the mutual respect swirling around on that stage, throughout - it all adds up to grandeur of the creative spirit, mixed with the magnanimity of the performers, which on that one, particular night, before an adoring crowd, blew the roof straight off. Just stellar !
