The Bop Shop 10.3.23 -Kevin Ayers-

kevin ayers “margaret”

from: whatevershebringswesing, 1971

Nothing quite embraces intimacy like music. And if you don’t believe me, let yourself listen to Kevin Ayers inviting you in to “Margaret” at least a couple of times. It’s quiet and he has a baritone voice. And yes, that is a wa wa guitar propelling a tender ballad. But the singing is delivered unhurriedingly and the piano accompaniment steps deftly through. Just when you think you haven’t been touched enough, a cello is introduced to finish off the drink.

Margaret
You’re such a magical child
I found that
The first time you smiled

And the more i get to know you
The more I am amazed
To find in someone
Such tender loving ways

And just like everybody sings
When the sunshine makes them high
I sing this gentle love song
From a flower to a butterfly

From a flower
to a butterfly.....
