The Bob Shop 7.11.23 - Robert Vincent

robert vincent, “this town”

from: in this town you’re owned, 2020

I bet this is a song that Robert Vincent wishes he didn’t have to write. If they are accurate, songs that acknowledge our powerlessness against certain forces seem important though difficult. Dylan’s “Only a Pawn in their Game,” similarly comes to mind. “This Town” has a folk anthem quality the gathers momentum transitioning from solo vocals to incorporate a supporting choir and larger instrumentation. The lamenting vocals pick up, then recede, then flare up, then out.
