The Bop Shop 12.19.23 -Marc Olson & Gary Louris-

marc olson & gary louris, “the rose society”

from: Ready for the flood, 2009

The look on your face when you start to remember
Were you a member of the rose society?
You’re fishing in a muddy stream
The dirty waters that you brought home
There for everyone to see

Where does time take your garden
The house of love still standing
Your garden abandoned

You’re good enough now for the rose society
You’re already there there by me
And your secrets buried in the ground
And you wash and wash the muddy waters down
By your side I always want to live
Where does time to take your garden
The house of love still standing
Your garden abandoned

Where does time take your garden
The house of love still standing
Your garden abandoned

The house of love still standing
The house of love still standing
The house of love still standing
— Marc Olson & Gary Louris

Mr. Olson and Mr. Louris formed the Jayhawks in 1984. Their harmonic imprint together was one of the most memorable qualities of the band. After breaking up and reforming several times, for some reason in 2009 they reunited to make “Ready for the Flood.” It’s a sturdy document of their artistic partnership. Their intertwining vocal gifts are like geese in chevron flight, natural as a stonewall, a sonic embroidery.
