If you don’t know about Folkways Records you have come to the right place except this is the wrong department. For that you’ll have to talk to the people in kitchens. Be advised they often don’t return calls, and are open odd hours with vacation pay and dismal salaries. Folkways recorded projects like urban street noise and visits to your aunt’s house. Luckily for you they had the mikes at the ready for this precious gem. The whole affair is available you know where, but here is a whistle wetter for your flagging hopes.
The good news is that the entire catalogue of Folkways, created by the great preservator Moses Asch, is still available and was absorbed by the Smithsonian Institution. Just when you thought the world was going to shit a magnificent non profit smorgasbord erupted and lives, even putting out new records even as we speak!
