There are few live bands with better ensemble playing than Session Americana. Based in Boston- Cambridge, their core members have encorporated the best players in the contemporary folk scene into their ongoing projects. They are best experienced live, as their records, though important documents of their contributions cannot equal their mixtures of human, pathos and on the spot fun imbued of their real thing. I never know where their songs come from except of course from the heartland of meaning. Meaning they make throb with soundmaking.

When we met
I could not have dreamed
You would mean this much to me
It’s hard to say where I went wrong
Love is wasted on the young.

There’s a little white ship
Sailing though the night
Moon’s on the rail shining big and bright
Barefoot sailors boil their water for tea
As they’re rolling along on the deep blue sea

20 summers and 20 falls
20 winters the hardest of all
Thought the love we built was strong
Turned around and it was gone
