israel nash, “rain plans”

from: rain plans, 2013

I got rain plans
Written in these storms
When I throw it
Tell me where to go
Hold on, there’s a woman in my bed
And I want her to stay here
Hold on, there’s a woman in my head
And I want her to stay there
I got rain plans
Tell us where we’ve been
I got new hands
To pawn us west again
Hold on, there’s a woman in my bed
And I want her to stay here
Hold on, there’s a woman in my head
And I want her to stay there
— I.N.

Here’s an example of a song whose lyrical contents seem far outperformed by its instrumentation. The lyrics seem a bit banal, but the sound is transcendent even reaching plaintive euphoria. This phenomenon happens in more work than you might think where promising intros end up going nowhere.
