richie havens “younger men grow older”
from: alarm clock, 1968
There are a lot of quietly powerful and instrumentally sophisticated sleeper songs buried on the early recordings of Richie Havens. Topically he is capable of delivering messages about difficult developments in the human predicament in the most soothing ways. Almost seeing the challenge in having the courage to challenge oneself. His voice is like reassuring friend willing to listen. Guitarist Paul Williams fills the piece with some beautiful leads.
