boz scaggs, “loan me a dime”
from: boz scaggs, 1969
It is mind boggling that this terrific album sold 20,000 copies and only reached number 171 on the Billboard charts. It has since seen a spike in sales due to Boz’s 1976 hit, Lowdown, but for me this and the two Steve Miller Band recordings that preceded it were his highpoint. A recording with guitar virtuoso Duane Allman, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm section and the Memphis horns, there isn’t a weak song on it.
Loan Me A Dime is an extended blues that allows for Duane, the horns and Boz to wail. Turn up the volume and go back (or visit for the first time) to 1969.
