“Mr. Excitement” was the consummate entertainer who influenced many artists including James Brown, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. It was reported that he believed sweating caused “the chicks to love it.” He would take salt pills and drink a great deal of water prior to performing and in 1975 this led to him having a massive heart attack on stage. He never fully recovered and died from pneumonia at 49.
