penguin cafe orchestra, “southern jukebox music”
from: signs of live, 1987, “steady state,” from: PCO, 1981
This remarkable band took everyone who loved them by a quiet storm when they came on the scene in the early 1980’s. They were the brainchild of the late British composer and multi-instrumentalist, Simon Jeffes. Chamber folk, new classical, international surf classics, electronica? Intimate, humane, inventive, alluring. Beautiful is what they were and are. Thank the stars music like this came into our existence.
