The Bop Shop 8.20.23 -Chandler Travis Philharmonic-

chandler travis philharmonic “things to you”

from: Some dive bar

Let me say things to you
You are a true dream come true
You are like the clear sky of blue
Let us be one plus one
Love that will never be done
A Love that’s always just begun
Let me say things to you
Words don’t always come out like I plan
This I think that you will understand
Let me say things to you
You are a true dream come true
You are like the clear sky of blue
Darlin, hold on, hold on for me

— Terry Adams

Chandler Travis can be a lot of “things to you.” Not many of them are as known about as they should be. He may be from Cape Cod. He lives there but ventures away only rarely. Wherever he plays is an event. Often in his bathrobe and bare feet. His Philharmonic is a loose gaggle of astutely unhinged experts at their craft of being loose gaggles. His sites: house concerts on crummy second floor pressue-treated decks, in July 4th parades, on the asphalt parking lot of a dying strip mall, singing through a megaphone. Hats are optional and mighty flashy fashion colors are encouraged. He is kind of like the epic jazz band leader Sun Ra except that he mainly plays guitar. Akin to the Ra, Travis often blurs the boundaries between audience and performer, mainly in the service of creature comfort for all concerned. Case in point in our feature today at this unknown bar, where standing in their midst, he gets those assembled to sing with him, even in ad hoc unison hushed tones. He is the king of ad hoc! An affiliation with the fellas from NRBQ produced this “cover me like a blanket”version of Terry Adams “Things to You.” If there ever were a more romantic number that should be played live at the next three weddings you attend this is it. Below also included in todays post is the original. Get close to your beloved as soon as possible. The Phil-do no harm-onic.

Todays post is dedicated to the great Harriet Baskas for her lifetime NRBQism.
