Gill Landry of Old Crow Medicine Show

gill landry, “fennario”

from: gill Landry, 2015

One of the most clever gentrifications of Mexican music is the grafting of guitar and Mariachi horns into the works of many country-folk artists Such a dialogue is fluidly executed in Gill Landry’s “Fennario,” maybe even referencing the great Marty Robbins “El Paso.” For the instrumental virtuosity is intricately interwoven with the lyrical content and they propel the story’s elegance. Robert Ellis is the featured guitarist with Nick Etwell on trumpet.

The guitarist on this piece was Grady Martin.
