Yes Baby Gramps is the spittin’ vocal image of Popeye the Sailor. To some that would cement his place in either useless tomfoolery or vaunted elation. To boot is must be noted that he is an accomplished throat singer and guitar wizard. His imprint on the traditional sea chanty “Cape Cod Girls” veers from what you might expect into trance music. So within all its irregularites, this song creates quite a spell… Mr. Gramps is a revered outlier, one man band, and singular contributor to modern folklore. In addition, in 2010 he released a musical marriage made in heaven lp with the great Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders: “Outertainment.” A sample follows.
