Penguin Cafe Orchestra

penguin cafe orchestra, “Perpetuum mobile” & “music for a found harmonium”

from, signs of life, 1987 & broadcasting from home, 1984

Drama dramatique. Two pieces conveying movement, arrival, excitement and apprehension. They ascend from the career of creator Simon Jeffes assemblages with new classical, folk and international musicians in the UK beginning in 1972 until his passing in 1997. Touching, luxurious, humane, original are descriptors that seem appropriate to their music. The artwork accompanying their recordings always includes penguins and humans that may be wearing the heads of birds? Never heard anything like them. They made some noise and we can be glad they did.

And then there’s the great Irish band, Patrick Street covering it in “Napolean Dynamite.”
