The Bop Shop 8.10.23 - Terry Adams

Terry Adams “greetings from delaware”

from: brass tacks, 2014

Called the “untamed genius of the keyboard” (no attribution found), Terry Adams, originally from Louisville, KY, is the founder and driving force of NRBQ (New Rhythm and Blues Quartet), and the composer of over 250 recorded songs. Throughout his six decade career, Adams has stayed true to his version of a band that mixes and plays multiple genres, ranging from pop to blues to rock-and-roll to rockabilly to jazz, an approach that makes for exhilarating live shows and an impressive discography of great original songs along with adaptations of others'. Who else would turn Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor into “In Every Dream,” a country song?

“Greetings from Delaware” falls in the category of Adams’s sly social commentaries songs (along with other gems such as “One Big Parking Lot,” and “Over Your Head”), and includes drumming reminiscent of one of his most famous songs, “Me and the Boys.”

Adams is still composing and performing with NRBQ, pounding the Clavinet and playing the piano in a style that’s best enjoyed live.

You can see NRBQ at The Narrows in Fall River on Friday, August 25 or at The Center for the Arts in Natick on Saturday, August 26. You should go, your life will be better.
