will dailey “so many wrong ways”

from: torrent Vol. 1&2, 2009

What a pop song can accomplish in such a short time is a continuing facination to me. Mr. Dailey proves it here as much with the intoned emotion he breathes into the lyrics and arrives at that “place” ushered along by all the other sonic effects. It’s that place, maybe as you’re driving in your car, and arrive at where you can be taken by music. The arc between art and listener is an unending open book.

We grew up in a flash
Ephemeral kids just watching it pass
By a morning sky
We were the kings of not knowing who you are
Mating words before the show
It never seems to matter which show you know
In a moonlight mile you’d be somewhere you’d know that you’d never go
And all your pretty things are choking you now’
So many wrong ways down

Sometimes you sing the hymns that you shape
The things you don’t do could be the difference it makes
Whether low or high
Maybe someone to make it all worth their while

But all your pretty things are choking you now
So many wrong ways down
And as it was before it seems to be now
So many wrong ways down

We grew old in a flash
In our revolution it did not last
In our twilight eyes
We’re still the kings of not knowing what you’ve got

But all your pretty things are choking you now
So many wrong ways down
And as it was before it seems to be now
So many wrong ways down
