Aster Aweke, “Bitchengna” (Lonliness)

Born in Ethiopia in 1959, Aster grew up in Addis Ababa before moving to the United States in 1981. After a few years in the Bay area, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she released her first two recordings Aster and Kabu. The song, Bitchengna is sung in Amharic and is from her second disc Kabu. In 1997 she returned to Ethiopia. She is now considered one of if not the top female Ethiopian vocalist of all time.
